Sports and recreational facilities are located on campus in the Multi-Purpose Centre (An Dánlann).
Facilities include a modern fitness suite, a large sports hall, an 8 metre high climbing wall and a regulation size floodlit soccer pitch. The facilities are available to all students and cater for all abilities – from those interested in recreation and keeping fit to local and intervarsity competitions. There is an active and vibrant sports culture throughout the institute.
LYIT runs a very busy sports programme throughout the academic year in association with Student Sport Ireland, the GAA and the FAI. Badminton and Rugby, through the assistance of Student Sport Ireland, are also developing at the college.
The sports programme is run by the Sports Officer who manages the competitive fixtures and teams. The Sports Officer is always happy to assist students with the required information on how to get involved in competitive sports at LYIT.
LYIT has a variety of competitive and recreational sports clubs, with many (both male and female) also involved in higher education and university competitions, in the following sports:
Individual participation in a number of other sports is encouraged and supported. We will help you find, and participate in, your preferred sport.
We also collaborate with other local sports facilities which include the Aura Leisure Centre (swimming pool), 4G astro pitches, the local golf club, tennis club and the Gartan Outdoor Education Centre.
