Welfare/Equality Officer

My name is Edward and I am your Welfare & Equality Officer for the academic year 2021-22. I have a strong background in activism, working with Donegal Down Syndrome and Our Children’s Voice, campaigning for changes in legislation to allow children with Down Syndrome access to mainstream education. I have been to Leinster House on a number of occasions speaking on behalf of siblings of those with terminal illness and life limiting diseases as well as presenting information gathered through surveys which I helped to design and deliver.

I’ve been working closely with LYITSU as a Class Rep and as part of the Welfare Committee for the past 2 years. I’m also a member of the Student Engagement Framework Project Team and of the NStEP as a Student Trainer, where I’ve had the honour of discussing student engagement with some brilliant and passionate people and providing training for the next generation of Class Reps across Ireland.

I can’t wait to meet you all in the coming year, hopefully together we can reinvigorate our campus as we settle back into learning. I’m looking forward to hearing all your ideas on how we can promote wellbeing, not only in LYIT, but as part of our wider community.
