Hello and a big welcome to our new students and a welcome back to all of our returning students. If you don’t already know, I’m William Daly and I am your Welfare & Equality Officer for the next year.
What is it that I do?
You may ask ‘what does a Welfare & Equality Officer do’? That is totally ok if you do not know! I myself in first year thought that the Welfare Officer handled welfare payments and lack of money, but thanks to asking and annoying people, I finally figured it out! The Welfare Officer deals with a range of personal well-being issues, helps and runs campaigns and events – all for the best welfare of the students. The equality part of the role focuses on diversity in the college and tries to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and equally. This means for example, no matter if you’re LGBT, Afro Caribbean, religious, a mature student, have special needs or are disabled, there is a place for you in LYIT and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! I hope that through the year, I can talk to loads of you and try to support you with any issues or problems you may be having. Don’t be afraid to pop up to the SU anytime or if you see me in the hall and want to have a chat over a cuppa – just let me know.
